The Benhall & Sternfield Elders Club was formed on 17th November 1966. The 1st Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Mrs. French. Chairman: Mr. Jim Fraser.
Other members included: Mr. Ted Ayden, Mrs. Fraser, Mr. Hamby, Mrs. J Smith, Mrs. Crisp, Mrs. V.W. French, Mr. P Scopes, Mrs. R. Thompson. Observers: Miss N.W. Hogg & Miss C.V. Whiter
Items under discussion were:
Chiropodist arrangements, donations, annual outings, holidays to Gorleston & Hopton on Sea, Meals on Wheels and the 1966 Christmas Party: Ted Ayden reported that there was still an amount of Ovaltine in hand & that Horlicks had been ordered.
Also the Derby Draw and games: members were asked if they would like to play more games other than Bingo, they were quite happy with Bingo!

1966 Christmas Party details from Elders’ Club Minute Book:
It was unanimously agreed that a charge of 2 Shillings a head (today 5p) be made for the party to be held at 4:30pm on Friday 16th December 1966.
The approximate number attending was 50-60 and a parcel of food was to be taken to those unable to attend.
It was agreed to supply sandwiches of ham, cheese, egg and salmon. Mrs. Hamby was to make sausage rolls with 3 lbs of sausage meat promised by her butcher. Mrs. Thompson stated that she would be responsible for the egg sandwiches.
It was agree to order:-
7 1/2 cut loaves 4 1/2 pints of milk 2 1/4 lbs of butter 1 1/4 lbs of ham
3 lbs sugar 1/2 lb cheese 1/2 lb tea Salmon.
Mrs. Smith to bring 1 lb mixed sweets, Mrs. French to buy 1 lb fondants, mince pies, fruit cakes, sponges, scones, rusks, gingerbread. Biscuits were promised by members of the committee and it was agreed that they would be reimbursed.
Mrs. Fraser to make jellies and Mr. Fraser was to order ice-cream blocks. Mr. & Mrs. Hamby were asked to bring cardboard plates and plastic spoons.
The party would start at 4 pm and the committee would report at 2 pm to prepare sandwiches and the tables. Mr. Fraser would try and arrange some form of entertainment.

From the next meeting’s minutes it was agreed that the Christmas party had been a great success and a vote of thanks was passed to all who had helped in the preparation. The 1967 Christmas Party was also held in the Hut (Benhall Club) however the 1968 Christmas Party was arranged by Mr. Rasmussen, Saxmundham Secondary School on 19th December 1968.
