Until recently there wasn’t a beacon in Benhall or Sternfield for events such as Anniversaries, Jubilees or Coronations.
Currently known as the Benhall & Sternfield Ex-Servicemen & Village Club which was built in 1923 after WWI.
Villagers built a bus shelter for just £20 in 1953 using the remainder of their Coronation Fund. The youngest ‘builder’ was just 3 years old!
The History Group’s project in 2024 was to look at the changes in Farms and Farming in our two villages.
Benhall Green’s telephone box has a history as well as being beautifully decorated and used to inform local residents.
Postmills were the first windmills, introduced into the UK in the 12th century. Hundreds were built in Suffolk alone. This Benhall mill was built in 1736.
